Who We Are

Local Gutter Installation Experts Who Actually Live By The Work They Do

Roof Repair Smedway didn't start as a franchise looking for a market to plant a sign in. Our crews trained on real tear-offs, real ridge vents, and real attic inspections in York, AL before we ever put a truck on the road under this name.

We carry full liability coverage and workers' compensation, and every lead installer holds current state licensing, so a claim adjuster, a home inspector, or your own insurance carrier can verify our credentials without a single awkward phone call.

A patched flashing that leaks again in eighteen months costs a homeowner more than the first repair ever saved. That's why our Gutter Installation crews follow manufacturer specs on every nail pattern and every underlayment overlap, not just the visible parts.

Problem Signs

Warning Signs York Homeowners Shouldn't Ignore

By the time water is visibly dripping into a room, the damage underneath the surface has usually been developing for a while.

Shingle Grit Washing Off

Asphalt shingles shed protective granules as they age, and a gutter full of grit usually means the surface layer is wearing thin.

Curling Or Cupping Shingles

Shingle edges that curl upward have usually lost flexibility, which makes them far more likely to crack or blow off in the next storm.

Daylight In The Attic

Climb into the attic on a sunny day — if you see pinpricks of daylight, water can get through the same gaps.

Ceiling Stains Or Sagging

Sagging drywall or a soft spot underfoot in the attic usually points to sustained moisture damage, not a one-time drip.

Inconsistent Indoor Temps

Energy bills that creep upward without an obvious reason are worth checking against your roof's condition.

Storm-Stripped Sections

Even one missing shingle can let enough water through to rot the decking underneath within a single storm season.

Our Core Services

Gutter Installation Solutions Built For Every York Property

We break our work into distinct service lanes because a wind-lifted ridge cap and a full tear-off need completely different crews, materials, and timelines.

Emergency

Emergency Roof Repair

When high wind or hail peels back a section of roofing, our on-call crew tarps the exposed area to stop active water intrusion before it reaches the decking, then schedules the permanent repair.

Residential

Home Roofing Services

Every residential estimate walks the homeowner through material options, from standard architectural shingles to impact-rated upgrades.

Commercial

Commercial Roof Maintenance

We schedule commercial jobs around business hours whenever possible, minimizing disruption to tenants, staff, or foot traffic.

Replacement

New Roof Installation

Old, layered shingle systems often need a full tear-off rather than an overlay, and we'll tell you honestly which one your roof actually needs.

Inspection

Annual Roof Tune-Ups

Post-storm inspections give homeowners a documented record for insurance purposes, whether or not a claim is ultimately filed.

Specialized

Specialized Roofing Solutions

Chimney crickets, skylight seals, and valley flashing are common leak points that general handyman work often gets wrong — our crews treat them as their own scope.

Emergency tarp-downs are typically handled same-day; standard repair and replacement work is usually scheduled within a couple of days depending on crew availability.
Do you provide upfront pricing?+
We quote flat-rate pricing in writing before any work starts, so there's no ambiguity about what the final invoice will look like.
What emergency services are available?+
Our emergency scope covers anything that's letting active water into the structure — wind-torn shingles, cracked flashing, and fallen debris damage.
Are you licensed and insured in York, AL?+
Yes, every lead technician holds current state licensing and we carry full liability and workers' comp coverage, with documentation available on request.
Do you work with my homeowners insurance?+
Yes — we've worked with adjusters across York, AL and can format documentation to match what your specific carrier typically requires.
How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?+
We look at shingle age, granule loss, and decking condition together — isolated damage on an otherwise healthy roof usually means repair, not replacement.
What roofing materials do you install?+
Standard and architectural asphalt shingles, metal roofing systems, and commercial membrane options like TPO and EPDM are all within our scope.
Do you offer a warranty on completed work?+
Warranty terms are explained before the job starts, not buried in fine print after the fact.
How much does a typical roof repair cost?+
Costs vary by damage extent and material, which is why we inspect first and quote a firm number rather than guessing over the phone.
Can you inspect my roof before I file an insurance claim?+
We regularly inspect roofs specifically to help homeowners decide whether a claim is worth filing in the first place.
Do you offer financing for larger roofing projects?+
Financing options are available for qualifying replacement projects — ask your estimator during the written-quote stage.
How long does a full roof replacement take?+
Most residential tear-offs and reroofs take one to three days depending on roof size, pitch, and weather conditions.

York is a city in Sumter County, Alabama, United States. Founded around 1838 after the merging of two communities, Old Anvil and New York Station, the latter a station on a stagecoach line. The rail came through in the 1850s and later, the "New" was dropped from York Station in 1861. With the discovery that another community in Alabama bore that name, the "Station" was dropped and York was formally incorporated on April 6, 1881. At the 2010 census the population was 2,538, down from 2,854 in 2000. From 1920 to 1980, it was the largest town in the county.
